VALUE SHADING PEARS AND FOLDS OF FABRIC
Follow the steps below to create a tonal drawing of these folds of fabric and fruit
1.Draw up a rectangle of the same format (vertical) and ratio(width to a height equal) as this one
2. Draw in the main divisions and fruit shapes (leave the shapes of the folds til later)
3. Since there are more medium and dark values, shade it all over with your 8b graphite (except for the top black area)
with a value of about 3 on the 0-8 tonal scale
4. Squint at the folds, then draw the shapes where the darker values(4-8) will be (or alternatively, draw in reverse with your gum and battery erasers where the lighter areas are,
then shade the darker areas between with successively more tone as required to show the shadow areas of the folds
4.In the top black area (at the end )use charcoal or drawing black ink to achieve the blackest black
5. Now spend some time value modelling the pears, aiming for their texture as well as their tones
